Green Mountain


This 72 acre Park is maintained by the Madison County Commission. The Site was originally developed in 1975. Trail and restroom renovations were completed in 1998 with a National Recreational Trails Fund Grant.

Centerpiece of the park is Sky Lake. A 1.5 mile nature trail circles the lake. With several connecting trails and loops, the total trail distance is about 2.25 miles. Along the trail are several restored structures. Included are a covered bridge, log cabin, chapel, and an A frame shelter. Numerous kinds of wildflowers are found on the nature trail throughout the warm seasons. A large picnic pavilion with restrooms is at the entrance. An outdoor picnic area is also present. A gang of Canada geese is sometimes in residence.

From So Memorial Parkway take Weatherly Rd east to Baily Cove Rd--Turn Right -- Take left on Green Mountain Rd -- Go to top of Green Mountain--Turn right on Shawdee Rd-- Take Shawdee to park entrance--park entrance is on the right with a big gate-- Watch closely, there are no warning signs
