|| Brown Anther Trout Lily
This is the brown stamen Trout Lily type growing uphill from the Wildflower Trail. A similar but rare species is the white trout lily, Erythronium albidum which can be found at a Elk River site in Limestone County.
The lily like flower opens during the day and closes at night.
Trout Lily plants are pollinated by ants. Near the middle of May, the above ground plant will die off. Ants also disperse the resulting large reddish brown crescent shaped seeds.
