Feb 2006 RAGWORT
N. Walker

Golden Ragwort is a perennial weedy plant that grows from rhizomes to about 3 feet tall. It has large basal leaves and small leaves part way up the stem. The aster-like flowers are bright yellow and are about an inch in diameter. When the flowers get old, the petals curl to form a slender tube. The plant can be a problem if eaten by livestock because of the poisonous substances it contains. The plant is common in fields, waste areas and along roadsides. Also can also be found at the Huntsville Botanical Garden
