| SATURN V 1ST STAGE ENGINES
| N WALKER
|
Aft end of giant Saturn V 1st stage showing then five F1 engines. The 1st stage propulsion system uses less demanding RP (refined kerosene) rather than hydrogen used by the upper stages. Ultra high performance is not as important for lower stages. Lift capacity can be obtained more economically by building larger engines.
