| 2ND STAGE`/`3RD STAGE INTERFACE

This is the interstage area between 2nd and 3rd stages of the Saturn V, The actual interstage is not included in the display. The interstage structure is conical to accomodate the reduction in diameter from 33 feet to 22 feet. At the end of 2nd stage burn, the 2nd stage is severed . A dual plane separation is not needed because there is sufficient clearance between the single engine and the departing S-II stage.
