CLICK PICTURES FOR LARGER VIEW DESCRIPTION Wild Hyacinth is a perennial plant that is native to Eastern North America. The plant, which grows to about 1 1/2 feet in height, has grass like basal leaves. The flowers are a little over an inch in diameter and are usually light blue, but occasionally white. The plant is frequently used in gardens and is propagated from bulbs, which can be purchased. Varieties planted in gardens are fragrant. Other common names are Easter Camass, Atlantic Camas,and indigo squill. Grape Hyacinth (Muscari botryoides) as shown in Photo 3, is a different kind of hyacinth and is not native. This plant grows in the cold part of the year and is dormant in summer. The flowers, which appear in early spring, look like miniature grape clusters.
