False Solomon's Seal looks similar to Solomon's Seal when not flowering. The plant has the same arching stems with broad elliptical leaves. The blooms, however, appear at the end of the branches rather than in rows at the bottom of the branches. The flowers are small and white. As the berries develop, they change from brown to red. The berries are a food for animals. The berries and rhizomes have been eaten by Indians, after boiling and other preparation. The berries can be eaten raw but are not pleasant tasting.
