This is a naturalized annual plant that grows in disturbed areas, like fields before they are tilled for summer crops. Whole untilled fields, as observed from highways will have a yellowish cast from this plant. Animals avoid eating Buttercups. The flowers are about an inch in diameter and have glossy yellow petals.
