Timberline Lodge on slope of Mt Hood was designed and constructed in late 1930's by the Works Project Administration (WPA). The structure and furnishings were built mostly with local materials and minimal tools; and very low cost. The lodge was closed during WW2 and required extensive restoration work after the war.
