The trip stated in Colorado Springs, with visits to Pikes Peak, Air Force Academy and Garden of The Gods. Then down I-25 a short distance to Pueblo and the road leading west to Royal Gorge and the famous 1000 feet high suspention bridge. The same day, after traveling a round-about way, we vistited Great Sand Dunes National Park. The following two days were spent in the Durango area, including the steam train round trip to Silverton. Mesa Verde National Park in the southwest corner of the State was next. Then a drive through the San Juan Mountains with stops at scenic Telluride and Ouray. Just north of the San Juan's is the Black Canyon of The Gunnison, then on to Grand Junction and the adjacent Colorado National Monument. After a long drive back east and north, we arrived at Rocky Mountain National Park for two days of gawking and exploring. In Denver we visited the outstanding Lewis & Clark exposition. No photos allowed for this. We also visited the Denver Botanical Garden and the Transportation and Wings Over The Rockies museums.
