Veterans Memorial Museum WW2 SMALL ARMS
........N. Walker, May 7, 2005
The M-1 Garand was the standard rifle carried by the WW2 and Korean War infantryman. It had an 8 round clip and was semi automatic. Most other armies still used bolt action single shot weapons like the Springfield. The M-1 and Springfield as well as the BAR and light machine guns all used the same 30 caliber ammunition. The carbines were smaller weapons used for troops not in front line combat or for special purposes, such as airborne. .
