This is M4 Sherman Tank that was used in several models by USA, British, Canadian and Russian armys in WW2. Thousands were built by several firms, including Ford and Chrysler. Even though the Sherman was inferior to German Panther and Tiger tanks in armor and gun, the US Army continued to use the lighter Sherman to ease ocean shipping, and bridge crossing problems. The Sherman also had advantages in speed, reliability and numerical superiority. The British adapted a larger cannon to a more potent Sherman variety called the Firefly. It was not until near the end of the war in Europe that we fielded a tank equal to the Germans, the M-26 with heavy armor and a 90mm main gun. The M4 in the picture is in a pre-restoration state, no gun.
