Steel rod is heated to red hot condition in forge. The heated portion at end of rod is squared and sized with hammer and anvil. The nail head is formed by inserting the still hot nail into a heading tool and flattening the top end with a hammer. The air is supplied to the forge with a hand operated bellows.
